Anja Eckstein, M.D.

Dr. Eckstein is currently a professor at the University Eye Hospital Essen and head of the department of orthoptics, oculoplastic and reconstructive surgery and orbital center. Dr. Eckstein’s primary areas of expertise include orbital disease especially inflammatory orbital diases like thyroid eye disease and she has published numerous articles in this field field. She is one of the leading members of EUGOGO and coauthored 2021 and 2022 guidelines of Graves’ orbitopathy and pediatric Graves’ disease. In addition, she co-leads a molecular lab together with Dr. Goertz for in vivo and in vitro models of Graves’ disease. Dr. Eckstein received her medical degree from the Medical University of Munich and received her ophthalmology training in Moorfields Eye Hospital, University of Tuebingen and University of Essen Duisburg.
